Waterfront bar installs new sound system
09 May 2004

The Waterfront Bar in the Viaduct, Auckland recently installed a new sound system supplied through Jands Electronics (NZ) Ltd.

The system was installed by SLE (Auckland) Ltd with system commissioning assistance from Jands (NZ) Technical Resource Group.

One of the main concerns for the bar owner was the issue of noise pollution to the surrounding residential area, and also for the bar staff to be able to adjust levels in different areas of the bar, it also had to provide good even coverage for background music during dining hours, but be able to perform for DJ use at the weekends.

A dbx 260 was installed with 5 remote volume controls for the different zones. The unit was configured so that one input was used for the computer music system while the second input was used for a DJ mixer used at the weekends.

As part of the installation 12 JBL Control 29AV Speakers were supplied, 8 were installed on the dance floor and 4 installed in the bar area. Sub bass was provided by an existing 18 inch speaker. The hi-fi sound of the Control 29 speakers suited the close proximity use and allowed for good sound level on the dance floor whilst minimising spill to the surrounding residential area.

A lobby area made use of some existing JBL Control 5 speakers and 2 pairs of JBL Control 25AV Speakers were used on the wharf dining area.

Amplification was provided by QSC RMX 2450 and RMX 1850HD Series amplifiers.
