BUYER BEWARE - Shure Microphone Counterfits
11 September 2005

Jands, the local distributor for Shure, has seen a few sent into their Service Department but admit that it can be very difficult to spot a fake from the real thing unless you know what you are looking for.

Poor reliability and poor sound quality are two of the big indicators - and the reason unsuspecting buyers sent them into the Jands Service Department. The paint finish peeling off quite easily is also another big indicator.

The increase in the trade of counterfeits is a trend being seen throughout the Asia-Pacific and to date most of the counterfeits appear to have been sold over the Internet, with a combination of sellers inside and outside Australia. The traders generally set up an e-bay identity that they run for a couple of months and then shut it down, so they can't be tracked.

Buying from a music products reseller that you trust is the best way to ensure you get the real thing. Alternatively, call Jands' Customer Support Team on (09) 275 8710 and they will refer you to an Authorised Shure Dealer.
